Farm Description
Nestled in the highlands of Guji, southern Ethiopia, Hambela Buku is a small but exceptional coffee-producing area within the famed Buku Abel region. Grown by a collection of local farmers at elevations ranging from 1,950 to 2,200 MASL, this coffee benefits from cool mountain air, red loamy soils, and abundant rainfall—perfect conditions for slow cherry maturation and complex flavor development.
Farming in Buku is deeply rooted in tradition. The producers are mostly smallholder families who cultivate indigenous heirloom varieties using organic, time-honored methods. With a focus on quality and community, cherries are meticulously handpicked and delivered to local washing stations, where they are processed with care and precision.
Coffee Overview
This exquisite lot from Hambela Buku highlights the terroir-driven elegance of southern Ethiopia. The region’s heirloom varieties and high elevation produce coffees with floral intensity, vibrant fruit clarity, and refined sweetness. It’s a cup that captures the essence of Ethiopia’s natural beauty and centuries-old coffee heritage.
Processing Method
Natural (Dry Processed) – After selective handpicking, the cherries are laid out to dry on raised beds under the sun. Frequent turning ensures even drying and protects against over-fermentation. This natural process intensifies the fruit-forward profile, enhancing the coffee’s sweetness and body while preserving the delicate floral aromatics that Guji is renowned for.
