Farm Description
In the rugged mountains of the Harazi District, west of Sana’a, Yemen, lies Wadi Alma, a coffee-growing area steeped in tradition. Perched between 1,700–2,100 MASL, these small, terraced farms are cultivated by local families who have grown coffee for centuries, preserving heirloom varieties like Jaadi (Udhini) that are unique to Yemen.
Coffee here is more than agriculture—it’s cultural heritage. The dramatic elevation, dry climate, and rocky soils create challenging but ideal conditions for producing complex and distinct coffees. Partnering with the Mocha Mill team, farmers combine traditional handpicking with innovative post-harvest methods to unlock new dimensions of Yemeni coffee while maintaining its authenticity.
Coffee Overview
This lot from Wadi Alma represents the perfect meeting of ancient tradition and modern craft. With heirloom Jaadi/Udhini varieties grown in Yemen’s historic coffee heartland, and enhanced through anaerobic natural processing, it delivers a cup that is both rooted in terroir and strikingly contemporary.
Processing Method
Anaerobic Natural – Ripe cherries are carefully selected and sealed in oxygen-free tanks to ferment slowly, intensifying fruit-forward flavors and adding layered complexity. After fermentation, cherries are sun-dried in the arid Yemeni climate, concentrating sugars and producing a cup that is vibrant, wine-like, and deeply sweet.
Cup Profile
Mango · Red Grapes · Tamarind · Dark Chocolate
A lively and exotic cup with tropical mango brightness, juicy red grape sweetness, and the tangy depth of tamarind, all balanced by a grounding note of dark chocolate. Complex and fruit-driven, with a silky body and lingering finish—this coffee exemplifies the rare elegance of Yemen.
