Farm Description
El Jardín is produced by the Ureña Rojas family of Café Rivense del Chirripó, a pioneering group of brothers who have elevated the reputation of Costa Rica’s Chirripó region for specialty coffee. Their farm sits at 1,500–1,700 MASL, where the cool mountain climate, fertile soils, and careful farm management allow for slow cherry maturation and remarkable flavor development.
The family has become known for their experimental approach to processing, combining deep respect for tradition with a willingness to innovate. With strong dedication to quality, sustainability, and community, the Ureña Rojas family has transformed their farm into one of Chirripó’s most celebrated producers.
Coffee Overview
This lot of Catuai showcases the unique terroir of Chirripó and the adventurous spirit of Café Rivense. By combining anaerobic fermentation with the black honey process, the Ureña Rojas family has crafted a cup that bursts with fruit complexity, layered sweetness, and striking depth.
Processing Method
Anaerobic Black Honey – Ripe cherries undergo a carefully controlled anaerobic fermentation in sealed tanks, intensifying fruit flavors and creating a wine-like complexity. The cherries are then dried with maximum mucilage left intact (black honey process), which enhances sweetness, body, and longevity in the cup. The result is a coffee that is both bold and refined, with remarkable flavor clarity.

An exotic and layered cup with tropical mangosteen brightness, lush purple grape juiciness, and a distinctive note of black licorice. Rounded by deep cacao nib richness, the coffee offers a silky body and a long, resonant finish—a stunning showcase of Costa Rican innovation.
